Practical DSEAR assessment for complex and everyday risks

DSEAR assessments to identify risks arising from dangerous substances and potentially explosive atmospheres, determine where additional controls are required and provide a clear, prioritised route to compliance.

    Overview

    DSEAR Assessments

The Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations require employers and duty holders to assess the risks from dangerous substances — including fuels, solvents, chemicals, combustible dusts and gases — and put proportionate controls in place. Our DSEAR assessments identify hazardous zones, ignition sources, existing controls and gaps, then deliver a prioritised action plan with zone classification where applicable.

    How It Works

    A clear, practical process

No report-and-disappear. Each stage leads to the next — and to action you can implement.

    01

    Substance inventory

We identify the dangerous substances present, their properties and the quantities handled.

    02

    Risk & zone assessment

Hazardous zones are identified and classified; ignition sources and existing controls are assessed.

    03

    Significant findings

Findings are documented with zone classification, priority ratings and clear recommendations.

    04

    Prioritised action plan

Each action gets an owner and target date so you can close findings with confidence.

    FAQs

    Common questions

What premises need a DSEAR assessment?

DSEAR applies to premises where dangerous substances are present or could be present — including workshops, stores, warehouses, laboratories, manufacturing sites and premises handling fuels, solvents, chemicals or combustible dusts. We confirm the scope during an initial review.

Is DSEAR the same as a fire risk assessment?

No. DSEAR is a specific risk assessment for dangerous substances and explosive atmospheres. It complements but is distinct from a general fire risk assessment, though the two often overlap.

Do you provide ATEX / engineering design?

We provide DSEAR risk assessment and zone classification within our competence. Specialist explosion-protection engineering design or equipment certification would be referred to a specialist where required.
